TOP 5 DIY IDEAS FOR LAST MINUTE PARTY PREPARATION

CANDLES DECORATION AND ROOM REFRESH SPRAYS

I always get stuck in getting ideas for decorating a table or room for any party or special occasion. Here are some of the easiest ideas that may help us in the last minute preparations. For relaxing and refreshing, my preferences are scented candle decor and spraying some soothing room sprays.

CANDLE DECOR

I am a big fan of scented candles. When I am in the mood to relax, I always prefer lighting up the candles and playing some mild musics. If you are in the last minute preparation of some party, then one of the easy go to decoration ideas are using tea light candles or scented candles.

I bought this BLISSFUL candles from the local market. It is inexpensive and mildly scented, perfect for me. I like their candle fragrance and already used lavender flavour. It was amazing.

Here I used the flavours like jasmine, rose, berries and citrus fruits. They smell so nice.

I used a simple plain glass as candle holder. Here are some of the ideas I used.

#1 USING WASHI TAPES

This is one of the simplest and easiest idea. Using colour tapes or washi tapes, covering the tealight candles, that matches the tables will make the table more attractive.

Stick tape to the candle without any air gap. Use different colours as you like to match your table.

This is the final look obtained. Very simple to achieve and time saver. Try it and comment below how it turned out.

#2 USING GLITTERS

Using glitters, we can make the tea light candles more sparkling. It makes your table even more interesting. You can also have different pattern in applying the glitter to a candles.

First apply glue or invisible glue gel to the candle. Then slowly spread or roll the candle over the glitter powder. Wait till the glue dries.

You can apply glitter in different patterns or colours as you prefer. In my case, I applied green and violet alternatively.

The final look is so beautiful and shimmery that sparkles while floating in the water.

#3 SATIN RIBBONS

Satin ribbons are one of the best way to decorate your candles and tables. Using satin ribbon, a simple bow makes the candle more decorative.

You can also use satin ribbon to create a pattern like we created. It is very simple to do. Big candles or the candle holders can be decorated like these patterns.

The first step is to apply glue to the holder and stick the ribbon at its center point to the holder.

Tie a knot around the holder and hold it tight. The next step is to criss-cross the ribbon and wrap it around the holder.

Now bring the two end to the front and tie a knot. Hold the ends tight at each step, as it will slip if you loose them.

Repeat the steps 2 and 3 till you reach the end. You can also stop in the middle, as your wish.

Finally, fill the glass with water or leave it empty and light a candle inside. This is very easy and gives a decent look.

#4 NEWSPAPERS

Using newspapers, we can cover up the candles or holders after cutting a specific patterns like we did. We made use of the little shape paper cutters. This cutter cuts the paper in the “snow flakes” shape. We cut the paper randomly and covered the candle holder. It looked more attractive after lighting the candles.

#5 JUTE THREADS

Jute threads are one of the best decorative things. Using these threads, making a bow or random patterns will make the candle or the holder (in my case), fit for the dinner table or the room corner. 

You can also try some other emotions or symbols like I tried doing mustache. If the thread slips then use glue to fix it in a place.

These jute decorations will elevate the look of the table, in case you are going with the theme like vintage, art, etc.,

ROOM REFRESHMENTS

Room sprays are my next favourite. They are easy to make. I usually use essential oils to make the sprays, depending on my requirements.

The basic requirements are :

• essential oils
• distilled water
• sprayer / humidifier

The essential oils I used are

• lavender – 4-7 drops
• rose – 3-5 drops
• lemon grass 1-3 drops.

The room sprays are very easy and fast to make. The essential oils has many benefits. Lavender oils calms and de-stress the mind. Citrus oils and lemons refreshes. Rose heals and elevates our mood.
