the love hypothesis book review

Hey folks! Welcome to the reader’s corner. I am Swathi Anandan, your book reviewer here, for exactly, after a couple of years. The past years have been a whirlwind for me because of my academics. So, I never got a chance to write my heart out in this corner about the books.

During those times, I suffered from severe reader block or slump, whatever it was. It was very tough for me. I used to take a book to read. It would go for a few pages, and I would leave it unfinished. It repeated again and again. Later, I stopped reading. I skipped visiting the Annual book fair, which used to happen in Chennai. So, long story short, after a long while, I am here with brand new book reviews.

After a year of break, the first book review I am going to present is about the book that got me out of my nightmare, which is the readers’ slump. And the book is

Blurb of the book

As a third-year Ph.D. candidate, Olive Smith does not believe in lasting romantic relationships, but her best friend does, and that got her into this situation. Convincing Anh that Olive is on her way to a happily ever after was always going to be tough; scientists require proof.

So, like any self-respecting woman, Olive panics and kisses the first man she sees. That man is none other than Adam Carlsen, a young hotshot professor, and well-known ass, which is Olive is positively floored when he agrees to keep her charade a secret and be her fake boyfriend but when a big science conference goes haywire and, Adam surprises her again with his unyielding support., their little experiment feels dangerously close to combustion.

Olive soon discovers that the only thing more complicated than a hypothesis on love is putting her own heart under the microscope.

My review

Firstly, the title ‘love hypothesis’ was quite similar to me. Currently, I am working in the field of research, which means I am dealing with a hypothesis. The word hypothesis irked me strongly. The language was super simple and beginner-friendly.

The story is just flowing like anything without any hindrance. The story takes place on an academic campus that tells us the ebbs and flows in the life of every academician who tries so hard to reach their goal. This story shows certain bonds, like the friendship between the protagonist Olive and her friend Anh, Olive and Malcolm, and the mentorship of Olive’s guide, which was phenomenal. The understanding they have and the encouragement they give to her were notable. Apart from that, the main story is amazing.

Accepting the phase of our life and respecting it is more important. It is a significant lesson I learned from the previous year. I bought this book last September and tried to read it, but could not make it past chapter one. I tried thrice and gave up. Then I started to listen to my body and mind, and I thought I won’t force myself. Suddenly last month, I got the urge to read something. I have a habit of carrying a book in my backpack wherever I go, and it happened to be this book. Then I started to read and, just like in the old days, it began to flow.

To my surprise, this book has my heart now. I could relate to many things with the story’s protagonist. Later, I realized that for everything, there is perfect timing. Similar to the timing of this book, to me.

I would say this book is a perfect rom-com. It has everything like friendship, love, fun, laughter, certain special bonds, twists, a bad guy, and good people. So, folks, I would highly recommend this book to all. This book would be perfect for a weekend read.

Enjoy the book. Happy Reading!
