PLACES TO VISIT IN BIKANER

#EPISODE 4

BIKANER

In this episode, I am going to discuss the places we visited in Bikaner, Rajasthan. It was so fun to explore this city.

Previously…

From Jaipur, we traveled for 8 hrs via road to reach Bikaner. We reached the Raj Haveli Heritage Hotels.

This hotel has a beautiful architecture and good ambiance. The room we stayed was spacious and neat. 

The dining area was good that fit my whole team. The food was good. Everyone loved that hotel.

QUICK HISTORY – BIKANER

On the next day, we started exploring Bikaner. Before exploring let us know some quick facts about Bikaner.

• A city in Rajasthan, located in the north-west region of India.
• It is surrounded by Thar desert
• So, often considered as the “oasis” by the traders in the trade route between Central Asia and Gujarat.
• This city was named after the Founder of the city, King Rao Bika.
• “BIKA” – “BIKANER”.
• The King Rao Bika was the first son of Rao Jodha. (Yes, your guess is right!. He was the Founder of Jodhpur)
• Climatic condition: Since the city is surrounded by Thar desert, it experiences the extreme climates.

The places we explored during our journey are Junagarh Palace, Lalgarh Palace, and two more museums.

JUNAGARH FORT

Junagarh fort was originally called as “Chintamani”, which is 5.28 hectares in area. Rao Bika built this fort in 1478.

It was build by using Rajput architecture with red sandstones and marbles. As like many forts, it also had many sections partitioned by beautiful gates.

GANGA SINGH MUSEUM

Among the rulers of Bikaner, King Ganga Singh is one of the famous and a powerful King.

He was British ruler’s favorite, as he helped them in their world war Ⅰ. Ganga Singh also got the title “Knight Commander” or “star of India”.

LALGARH PALACE

Lalgarh Palace was built by Sir Ganga Singh, King of Bikaner. Palace is named in the memory of Ganga Singh’s father, “Maharaja Lal Singh”. Lalgarh Palace is built using Rajput, Europe, and Mughal architecture.

Royal Families still reside in the Palace and the majority of it has been converted into Luxury Hotels. We were not allowed into the palace, as the Royal family resides, so we took a look from outside. 

This Palace consists of the museum called “Shri Sadul Museum”. This museum consists of the old attire, passport, first train model of Bikaner, etc.,

SADUL MUSEUM

Sadul museum is one of the parts of Lalgarh Palace, that displays and maintains the King and Queen clothes, belongings like passport, coins, etc,

The image given below is the type of game which the royal families played.

The Museum displayed different attires of Royal men and women. Women outfits were so colorful and elegant.

Royal Men attire was similar to that of a military uniform, which varied for a different status.

Most of the women attire consists of “Zardosi” work, which made the dress look so beautiful and grand.

 

The museum also consists of old passport, typewriters and other belongings of the Royal Family.

 

This place is very quiet and neat. Also, if you are interested in museums, you just need to come at least for once. From there we reached Jaisalmer after 8 hrs travel and stayed there.

In most of the Museums and Palaces, they prohibited cameras. So we are unable to take more pictures.
